Reset Your cr48 To Factory Condition

If you want to reset your cr48 to factory condition this is what you do.With your cr48 off remove the battery. Next to the battery terminal is a piece of tape covering the dev switch. Remove the tape and flip the dev switch to the left. Put the battery back in. Turn the cr48 on. A screen comes up that says hit space to begin recovery.

Hit space.
Then the next screen will come up saying you need a usb stick for recovery.
Now just close the lid. Remove the battery again and flip the switch back to the right.Turn the laptop on again. The login screen will come up like you had it, it doesn’t look like its been reset but... just log in. It should turn off automatically. Now turn the cr48 back on. It will then erase the stateful partition, after that it’ll reboot and then you can set it up for the first time again.

How To Disable Pepper Flash

Are you trying to use your webcam somewhere on the internet and it’s not working? How about are you unable to save pictures you’ve edited on Pixlr Editor or Picnik? I’ve had both of these problems. The easy fix for these two problems is to disable pepper flash. Just type about:plugins in the omnibox. Hit enter. This will bring up the plugins page. Now just click the plus sign on the right to expand the details. You have two flash plugins and they are both enabled. Just Disable the top one that says pepper in its details.

Task Manager Shortcut

Chrome unresponsive? Did a tab or extension crash or freeze up on you? Hit Shift + Escape to open the task manager.
Here you’ll see all running processes. Just select the culprit and click kill process and you’re back to running smoothly again.

Welcome Chromebook Users

I want to personally welcome all new Chromebook users to my cr48. Most info here also applies to Chromebooks. So take a look around, you may learn something.

Accessing External Storage

When an external device is inserted, like a SDcard or USBstick, the Ctrl+M file manager will automatically open it in a tab. To access your device later, open the file manager and navigate into the external storage directory and then open the device’s folder. In the file manager you can only open files or rename them.

You can copy files from external devices by going to file:///media/ and navigate into the device’s file tree and just right-click (or alt-click) the file you want to copy and select save link as... and then just save the file into your file shelf.

To save files from your file shelf to an external device navigate to file:///home/chronos/user/Downloads/ and right-click (or alt-click) the file you want to save and click save link as... and then just save the file to the external device’s directory.

Open Files Using Ctrl + O

To easily open a file just press Ctrl+O.
Then just navigate into the file shelf or into an external storage device and double-click the file you want to open.

This method currently only opens files into a tab.

Beta or Dev?

Which channel are you using on your cr48, beta or development? I’m still on the default beta channel. I don’t mind waiting for most of the kinks to be worked out, and I had a bad experience in dev on my Windows computer a few months ago.

Comment and tell us what channel you currently use, beta or development.

How and when do you use your cr48?

How do you use your cr48? I chill in my recliner and get on the cr48 while I watch TV or visit with the family. I like to use it for scouring the far reaches of the internet. I use my cr48 to write most of these posts using Google Docs. I also use it sometimes for making and testing Chrome Underground stuff.

When do you use your cr48? I like to use my cr48 later, when I’m winding down after a long day.

Comment and tell us how and when you use your cr48.

VGA Out (Video Mirroring)

To use an external monitor with your cr48 just plug the monitors VGA cable into the port on the left side of the laptop.
To enable or disable video mirroring hold Ctrl and press the Full Screen button.
To use both screens, plug your external monitor into the cr48 while the cr48 is completely off.  When you boot up, both the lcd and external monitor will be active.

This works best with widescreen monitors, because there’s currently no way to change the output resolution.

Google Cloud Print Sharing

Do you use multiple Google accounts on your cr48? I do. Well now you can print using Google Cloud Print on all your Google accounts by simply sharing your printers with those accounts.

  1. Sign in to your main Google account that has cloud print enabled.
  2. Visit https://www.google.com/cloudprint/manage.html
  3. Click the Printers tab.
  4. Select Share from the Actions menu that appears when you hover over your printer's name with your cursor.
  5. In the dialog that appears, enter the email address for the account you want to share with.
  6. Click Share.
You will see a notification the next time you try to print using Google Cloud Print on one of the other accounts you’ve shared your printers with.

To disable sharing, follow the steps above to open the Sharing dialog for the printer and edit the user list.

Screenshot Shortcut

Need to take a screenshot? It’s easy on the cr48, just hold Ctrl and press the Next Window button. This will save a screen capture to the screenshots folder in your downloads.

Amazon Cloud Drive and Cloud Player

Amazon Cloud Drive is another hard drive in the cloud. You can store music, videos, photos, and documents on Amazon's secure servers. Just sign in with your Amazon account or create one, then just upload your files. Cloud Drive offers 5 GB of free storage, enough space to store lots of files.
Amazon Cloud Player allows you to play the music you have stored in your cloud drive. The cr48 can’t upload directly to cloud player so just upload your songs into your cloud drive first. I use cloud player to listen to music on my cr48, just until Google launches their cloud music service soon.
